Leadership Shake-Up at Lloyd’s Register: Thomas Zanzinger Resigns Amid Major Acquisitions

by A. Dimitriou

Thomas Zanzinger, CEO of Ocean Technology Group (OTG) and OneOcean, has left Lloyd’s Register (LR). His departure comes at a busy time as the company is integrating its biggest acquisitions and everyone is wondering what it means for its digital maritime strategy. Zanzinger’s exit has sparked conversation about the company’s direction and ability to keep the momentum in the competitive maritime tech space.

Lloyd’s Register confirmed Zanzinger’s resignation after TradeWinds asked about the rumors. The classification society said he left for personal reasons but clients are worried about the ongoing integration of the new acquisitions. Zanzinger joined OTG in 2022 during the period of rapid growth of the company’s digital capabilities. He led the acquisition of OneOcean in 2022 and the unification of several digital service companies into one platform.

Zanzinger’s departure is a big change for Lloyd’s Register which now has to integrate its biggest acquisitions without its former CEO. The company has decided to split Zanzinger’s responsibilities between two co-CEOs: Nicholas Goubert, Chief Product Officer at OTG, who joined in 2023 and comes from tech startups, and Nick Copley, Group Strategy and Corporate Development Director at LR, who has been with OneOcean since 2017. This dual leadership approach is designed to leverages the strengths of both executives to drive the digitalisation of the maritime industry.

Lloyd’s Register is focused on digital services as technology becomes more important in the maritime sector. CEO Nick Brown is confident in the company’s strategy, saying he wants to be a trusted advisor to existing customers. The company is all about safety, sustainability and operational excellence.
