by A. Dimitriou

The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) recently took part in “Operation Breeze,” a joint maritime safety and security operation. This initiative was coordinated with several European Union member states and aimed at enhancing maritime surveillance and response capabilities in the Black Sea region.

During Operation Breeze, EMSA contributed its expertise and advanced technological resources, including the deployment of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) for aerial surveillance. These drones provided real-time monitoring and data collection, supporting efforts to detect illegal activities like pollution, illegal fishing, and other maritime offenses.

The operation exemplifies EMSA’s commitment to bolstering maritime domain awareness and ensuring the safety and security of European waters. Collaboration with member states and the use of cutting-edge technology allowed for effective monitoring and response, reinforcing the region’s maritime safety framework.

Overall, Operation Breeze highlights the critical role of coordinated maritime operations and technological innovation in safeguarding Europe’s maritime interests.
