Greek owner Niovis Shipping is expanding its fleet with a pair of Japanese ultramax newbuilds.
The Piraeus-based outfit revealed on its website that it had booked 64,000 dwt units at Oshima Shipbuilding.
Including the two newbuildings, the Mavroleon family vehicle currently counts a fleet of 19 vessels in the dry bulk and tanker segments.
The latest order follows a pair of ultramaxes contracted at Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) in early 2021, after a series of five bulkers were built at Mitsui Tamano and Mitsui Ichihara in Japan.
The expansion of the fleet aligns with Niovis Shipping’s strategic growth plans and commitment to modernizing their vessel portfolio.
Once delivered in 2026 and 2027, the Oshima newbuilds will increase Niovis’ bulker portfolio to 16 units on the water.
Several other Greek owners, including Newport, Samos Steamship and Latsco, have bulkers under construction at Oshima.

This move signals a positive outlook for the Greek shipping industry, strengthening its position in the global maritime market.
