The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has reported a container fire at Waaslandhaven, leading to a temporary suspension of terminal operations. On June 24 at 5:30 am (CEST), maritime activity was momentarily disrupted at Deurganckdok. Emergency personnel were onsite to contain the fire.
The issue was resolved around 7:20 am, nearly two hours after the initial report.
The container has since been relocated to a safe area.
The port noted that everyone involved is making extensive efforts to restore all activities promptly and that maritime traffic in Deurganckdok can now resume.
The port authority said the fire is under control and the situation is “evolving favorably,” but cautioned that the fire has yet to be extinguished fully.
According to a report from local newspaper The Brussels Times, “Residents of nearby areas like in Ekeren, Stabroek and Kapellen, likely to be most affected by smoke, were advised to keep windows and doors closed, to remain inside, to turn off ventilation if in the car and to seek medical help if affected by breathing problems, coughing or eye irritation.”
