Class NK Annual Report on Port State Control

by A. Dimitriou

ClassNK has published its annual report on Port State Control, aimed at raising awareness of the current state of PSC and enhancing onboard maintenance and inspections, as well as Safety Management Systems. The report features comprehensive statistics and data analysis regarding ships detained by PSC, along with illustrative photos of common defects.

In 2023, there were 419 PSC detentions for 398 ships under ClassNK’s classification. The report highlighted ‘Fire safety deficiencies’ like ‘fire-dampers,’ ‘fixed fire extinguishing installation,’ and ‘fire pumps’ as the most prevalent issues leading to detentions.

Moving forward, ClassNK remains committed to eradicating substandard vessels by disseminating information on PSC and offering ‘PrimeShip-PSC Intelligence,’ a tool to enhance PSC performance and ship management systems.
