Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. (DSIC) has achieved a historic milestone with the delivery of its first-ever LNG carrier, the SEA SPIRIT, to China Merchants Gas Transport (CM LNG). This landmark vessel marks DSIC’s entry into the technically demanding LNG segment and represents CM LNG’s debut in clean energy shipping.

🌊 SEA SPIRIT: A Technological Marvel in LNG Transportation

The SEA SPIRIT is a 175,000 cubic meter LNG carrier built to the latest international standards. Measuring 295 meters in length and 46.4 meters in beam, the vessel can supply enough natural gas to power the city of Dalian for over a month in a single voyage.

SEA SPIRIT LNG first MARK III delivered by DSIC

Key Features:

  • Dual-Fuel Low-Speed Engine: Compliant with the highest IMO emission standards.
  • Silverstream Technologies Air Lubrication System: Enhances hydrodynamic performance and reduces fuel consumption.
  • GTT Mark III Flex Containment System: This system offers an ultra-low boil-off rate of 0.085%, supported by a reliquefaction plant to minimize gas loss.

🇨🇳 Strategic Impact for China’s Shipbuilding Industry

With the successful delivery of SEA SPIRIT, DSIC joins Hudong-Zhonghua and Jiangnan Shipyard to form China’s “three-pillar” LNG shipbuilding capability. This development breaks the long-standing dominance of Korean shipyards in the LNG sector and signals China’s growing influence in the global clean energy supply chain.

🌐 CM LNG’s Vision for the Future

For CM LNG, the SEA SPIRIT serves not only as a vessel but also as the cornerstone of a robust LNG shipping platform. The company’s strategic investment in LNG carriers supports China’s broader objectives of energy diversification and sustainability.
