Lloyd’s Register (LR) has officially announced the creation of the International Maritime Future Technologies Innovation Centre, a groundbreaking initiative in partnership with COSCO Shipping Group, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the University of Southampton. This virtual centre marks a significant step in the global maritime sector’s transition toward zero-carbon technologies, intelligent ship systems, and digital innovation.
🚀 Purpose & Vision
The Innovation Centre is designed to be a global platform for collaboration between industry and academia. Its mission is to:
- Accelerate research and development in low- and zero-carbon maritime technologies.
- Advance intelligent ship systems and digital transformation.
- Translate academic research into scalable, real-world solutions for global fleets.
Led by COSCO Shipping Group, the centre will leverage the operational data and fleet network of COSCO to test and validate emerging technologies under real-world conditions. [lr.org]
🧠 Collaborative Expertise
Each partner brings unique strengths to the table:
