Disney Cruise Line celebrated a significant milestone with the float-out of its newest ship, the Disney Adventure, at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Wismar, Germany. This event marks a pivotal moment in Disney’s expansion plans, as the ship is set to become the largest in the fleet and the first to be based year-round in Asia.

  • Ship Specifications: Disney Adventure weighs 208,000 gross tons and can accommodate approximately 6,700 passengers.
  • Launch Date: The ship is scheduled to begin operations on December 15, 2025, from Singapore.
  • Unique Features: The ship will include attractions like the Ironcycle Test Run roller coaster and themed zones based on Disney stories.
  • Expansion Plans: Disney Cruise Line aims to have 13 ships by 2031, significantly increasing its passenger capacity.

Historic Float-Out Ceremony

On April 19, 2025, the Disney Adventure floated out of the construction hall, a traditional maritime ceremony that included a festive atmosphere with fireworks and appearances by beloved Disney characters, Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The float-out process took about 90 minutes, during which the ship was carefully maneuvered out of the building hall and into the shipyard harbor.

The ship’s hull is now complete, but further work is required to install critical systems and features, including the iconic red funnels and various attractions that will enhance the guest experience.

Features and Attractions

The Disney Adventure is designed to provide an immersive Disney experience, featuring:

  • Themed Zones: Seven distinct areas inspired by Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.
  • Attractions: The Ironcycle Test Run roller coaster, waterslides, and a Haunted Mansion-themed bar.
  • Dining Experiences: A new “Guardians of the Galaxy” dinner show and a Marvel-themed interactive experience.

Future Plans and Expansion

Disney Cruise Line is not only focusing on the Disney Adventure but also has ambitious plans for future ships. The company has contracted Meyer Werft for additional vessels, including the Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny, which are part of the Wish class. By 2031, Disney aims to have a fleet of 13 ships, significantly increasing its capacity to nearly 50,000 passengers.

The Disney Adventure will operate from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore, offering 3- to 5-night cruises. This strategic move marks Disney’s commitment to expanding its presence in the Asian cruise market, making it only the third cruise line globally to operate a ship exceeding 200,000 gross tons.

Conclusion

The float-out of the Disney Adventure signifies a new chapter for Disney Cruise Line, as it embarks on an exciting journey to redefine cruise travel with innovative features and immersive experiences. As the ship prepares for its maiden voyage, anticipation builds for what promises to be a magical addition to the Disney fleet.
